An email to SPCG
Have i missed something , or are Bradford council just going ahead with some work on the pavillion without liaising with our committee at all as I see new windows are going in?
Reply from the Chair of SPCG
Yesterday morning, after being informed by one of my fellow committee members, I went to see what was happening at the Pavilion. I saw that the pavilion’s windows and doors were being renewed.
When I asked one of the fitters what was happening, he informed me that they were working directly for Bradford Council.
He confirmed that they were replacing all the existing external windows and doors. That was all he could tell me.
We, as the Silsden Pavilion Community Group (SPCG), knew nothing of this event.
I then rang our contact at Bradford Council at the Department of Parks and Green Spaces. This department is responsible for the maintenance of the Pavilion. The person concerned knew nothing of this work but said they would investigate.
It would appear to be a case of “the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing”
This is not the first time such miscommunications have happened within Bradford Council, concerning the Pavilion.
Any person with building experience knows that fitting new windows is one of the last items to be done when constructing or restoring a property, not the first! The reason being that obviously damage can occur to the windows when carrying out works above, when removing existing roof coverings and fitting new.
I have already expressed the Groups’ concerns to Bradford Council and requested a full investigation.
Representatives of the SPCG have been invited to attend a meeting with the acting Assistant Director of the Department of Parks and Spaces, together with two members of her staff, next Tuesday. We are assured that a full explanation of this event and other items will be explained at this meeting. We live in hope!
I hope this answers your question!
I also received a copy of the supposed recent building survey carried out by Bradford, which was meaningless and incorrect.
We are attempting to keep the people of Silsden informed of any progress made with the restoration of the Pavilion, on Silsden Buzz, and on the website “silsdenpavilion.org.uk”
