Do you have any fond memories of the pavilion when it was in use?
From the day the playing fields and pavilion were opened by the Princess Royal on 29th September 1934, the Pavilion has had a chequered history. It’s now in its 90th year and sadly, whilst people can still remember it in its heyday, it carries the scars of decades of neglect.
Many residents can still recall how clean and tidy it was and buzzing with activity. The cafe served teas during the many events including football, bowls, rugby and tennis. It also provided much-needed changing facilities and toilets for all of the above and the many sports days. Families with young children enjoyed sitting outside the pavilion where they were able to enjoy cake and a cuppa.
One lady summed it up very simply. It was a happy place for people to meet and chat. A hub for local activities.
